Option to default to non-billable in tracked time

My team needs to have bill rates, so when I go to track time it auto selects "billable." I would like it to auto select non-billable, while selecting my team member. I have created a service item that they need to bill their time to, but it is auto selecting billable.
Maybe if service items, when selected as "fixed" could mean it is non billable VS when selecting "hourly" it would auto check "billable"

Time entries posted to the company for internal work such as G&A/All-Hands/CPE/etc. should default to "non-billable" each time, maybe by referencing the service item that is designed as "internal"? Sometimes our team forgets to mark nonbillable and we have to go back and add a step to check each month for billable internal hours that need to be cleaned up.

You can use service items to achieve this, with a workaround. For your "fixed" service item, set a default rate of $1 in the service item catalog. When creating a project, select the "fixed" service item in More Options, the billing rate should change to $1. Manually change this to $0. All time entries on this project should default to Non-billable.
This method means every "fixed" project needs to be adjusted by someone with billing permissions. Not perfect, but we use it and it works OK
I agree this should be set up more intuitively. Projects and/or Service Items should simply have the ability to set the default status for time entries.

Jordan Hoek Thanks for the workaround. On recurring projects will it keep the non billable status or does it revert back to the $1 and need to be changed to $0 again?

Natashia Velasquez Amanda Aparicio Our firm uses the fixed and hourly as billable. I would suggest an additional toggle on the service item settings to choose if it is billable or non billable by default. This would be a nice toggle on projects as well. Right now our firm has a dummy client that we have a monthly project to put all of our non billable time to. I would love to be able to track our non billable time by client.
